Crickets Program

Engaging the body and the mind in joyful music-making through musical games and movement, Crickets gently encourages very young children to explore the voice as their first true instrument.

Class Information and Rates

No audition or prior music training is required.

Crickets is a fun, play-based music and movement class for boys and girls ages 4 to 6. Trained teachers engage the body and the mind in joyful music-making through musical games and movement. Offered by Children’s Chorus of Maryland and School of Music (CCM), Crickets gently encourages young children to explore the voice as their first true instrument.

 

Saturdays for 10 or 12 weeks

FEE $200 for 10 weeks (including materials)
$240 for 12 weeks (including materials)
DURATION 50-minute classes once a week

Classes are limited in size to ensure full participation. Once a class is full, it will be removed from the dropdown menu option.

Is there a waitlist?

We encourage you to add your child(ren)'s name(s) to the waitlist by going to our Contact Page. Your place in the waitlist is determined by the order in which your email is received. If you have further questions, call us 410-494-1480 or go to our contact page to send us an email.

 

Meet your teacher

Alexandra Fyhr

Crickets: Early Learning Program

Alexandra FyhrChildren’s Chorus of Maryland is thrilled to welcome back Alexandra Fyhr for her second year as a teacher of the Crickets music program. She earned her Bachelors degree from Rutgers University where she studied piano. After moving to Baltimore, Alexandra earned her music education certification from Peabody Conservatory. She earned her Master’s degree in Music Education with Kodály certification from Loyola University, Maryland. In 2017 Alexandra completed a First Steps in Music certification course offered by the Feierabend Association for Music Education.

Alexandra is a general music teacher at Bushy Park Elementary School in Howard County where she teaches music to Kindergarten through 5th grade students and directs the 4th and 5th grade choruses. She has previously taught at Waverly Elementary and Pointers Run Elementary schools also in Howard County. She has also worked as the music director at Long Reach High School in Columbia to preparation for musical theater productions.

Alexandra teaches piano lessons from her home in Ellicott City, and spends her free time with her husband Chris, and their two-year-old daughter Zoe.

Ours is a comprehensive choral and music theory curriculum that is unique in the Baltimore/DC area, taking children through 11 graded levels of musicianship training.
